There are ten main qualities that make up brotherhood: selflessness, hospitality, protection, helpfulness, honesty, forgiveness, accountability, honor, fun, and righteousness. Most, if not all, of these are self-explanatory. These are expected of each brother no matter what. It is important that these are followed because if they are not the fraternity will, after time, give way into chaos and will be destroyed. One must be careful not to fall into the traps of selfishness, prejudice, arrogance, stupidity, laziness, and hazing. Some times it may take some extra thinking, but in the end it is always appreciated. After all, what comes around goes around.
Now that you the foundation of brotherhood, how are you supposed to be a good brother? Well, this is basically the same question as “how do you be a good person?” The answer is simple: be thankful to others and don't forget to express it, be happy and not gloomy all the time, spend time with your brothers and listen to them, apologize when you are wrong, be helpful to the chapter, and confront a brother who is in the wrong and give him your aid. These are the basic essentials to being a good brother. Now, you may have noticed that the majority of these criteria have others as the main focal point. Lets look at the actual word “brother” right now. If you look closely, you will notice that the main component in the word “brother” is the word “other”. This is not just a strange coincidence. One very important point is not to forget that true brotherhood extends to the brotherhood of all, and not just the fraternity.
